Racing Arrests, Break And Enter Arrest, Careless Driving Causes Serious Injury
TWO DRIVERS CHARGED WITH RACING
(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On November 14, 2017 at approximately 8:45 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a female driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 133 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
27-year-old Catherin PECKFORD of Whitby has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on December 20, 2017.Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. at this same location an officer observed a male driving a 2004 Ford Escape that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
20-year-old Christopher KNOX of London has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on December 20, 2017.His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
SERIOUS COLLISION RESULTS IN INJURIES; AIR AMBULANCE RESPONDS
(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) - On October 26, 2017 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a serious collision on Wellington Road 6, South of Mount Forest.
A southbound vehicle was overtaking a tractor trailer on a hill when it collided head-on with a north bound vehicle. The tractor trailer avoided the collision. Fire and Ambulance services attended and treated both drivers for serious injuries. Both drivers were transported to local hospital with serious injuries before the northbound driver was airlifted to a trauma centre. There were no other injuries reported.
As a result of the investigation the OPP has charge 37-year-old Dwayne Andrew Allen REIDE of Fergus with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 20, 2017.
Break and Enter Arrest
Sometime between 4am and 5:30am on November 14th, a male entered a Mason Court home through an unlocked sliding door and made off with electronic equipment. The male was later identified by police from surveillance video.
At approximately 3:55am this morning, police received a call about a suspicious person in the area of Waterloo Avenue and when they arrived, they located male walking away from a residence. This person was the male responsible for the Mason Court break-in.
The 20 year old male from Guelph was arrested and charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.
Festive RIDE Program
On November 15th, 2017, Wellington County OPP and the Guelph Police Service launched the festive RIDE campaign. Officers from both the OPP and the City of Guelph conducted RIDE lanes on Wellington County Rd. 18 and during this initiative, 275 vehicles were checked. As a result, one roadside breath test was conducted which resulted in a PASS.
This program will be running through the Holiday Season at all times of day at different locations in the area. The Guelph Police Service wishes everyone the best of the Holiday Season. Take the time to enjoy the season with friends and family, but if you are going to drink alcohol make other arrangements to get to and from your destinations – Don’t drink and drive!
