    Description

WDG Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health

We’re a community health service with dedicated staff who focus on promoting and protecting the health of our community.

We offer programs that:

  • Promote healthy infant and child development, responsive parenting, positive mental, reproductive, sexual and dental health.
  • Prevent cancer, heart disease, substance abuse, tobacco use and injuries.
  • Protect our communities from communicable and infectious diseases, and environmental hazards such as contaminated food and water.

Public Health is an accredited, non-profit agency.  We’re governed by an autonomous Board of Health. The Medical Officer of Health and four Directors oversee Public Health services and provide direction to over 200 full- and part-time staff members.

We’re guided by our vision, mission, and core values and our strategic plan (PDF).

We serve a population of approximately 272,000 in an area of 4,200 square kilometres. This incorporates 16 municipalities. We are located just west of the Greater Toronto Area, in the south central part of Ontario.  This area has a balance of agriculture, commerce, industry, and education, making it a desirable place to live, work, and locate business.  There are six Public Health office locations throughout Wellington and Dufferin counties.

We’re committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities as set out in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Our program mandate is described in the Ontario Public Health Standards 2008. Organizational and governance standards for the agency are detailed in the Ontario Public Health Organizational Standards.

Our multi-disciplinary team of health professionals takes pride in their roles as leaders and consultants in health promotion and disease prevention. Please contact us for more information on any of our programs and services. We want to work with you on public health matters.
