Police forces across the country are reminding drivers to have regard for the alcohol that they consume on the warm sunny days of summer. The rate of impaired driving is higher in the summer than at traditional holiday times, and many police forces have adjusted their RIDE stops to take this into account. We are now seeing more checks on rural roads that head to traditional holiday destinations.
People head out to visit, or for a nice lunch and forget that they are going to have to drive home. The sun and the warm weather are a bad combination leaving many people to drink more than they would normally. The dangers posed are obvious.
Take a moment before you head out on the next sunny day for lunch or a visit to friends, and figure out who is driving and who is drinking. A bit of planning on the front end can avoid serious consequences later.
